A note from the founder

Written under the dome, one late-night run at a time.

I started NovaStormRealm in a Fitzroy sharehouse in 2019 after realising most reviews stopped at the tutorial. We play to the credits, then keep playing — the postgame, the modding scene, the balance patches three months later.

Today a small crew of five writers covers RPGs, roguelikes, and cosmic-scale indie titles from a studio above Brunswick Street. No sponsored scores, no review embargoes we can't disclose, no filler. Just the honest verdict, the build that actually works, and the worlds worth losing a weekend to.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

How do you score games?+

We use a 10-point scale, but the number always sits beside the hours we played and the platform we tested on. A score is never posted before we've reached the credits, and we revisit reviews after major patches so the verdict stays honest.

Do you accept sponsored reviews?+

No paid scores, ever. We accept review codes from studios and PR, but we disclose every one at the top of the article. If coverage is a sponsored partnership, it is labelled clearly and never affects the number.

Can I pitch my indie game?+

Absolutely — we love hearing from small teams. Email us at [email protected] with a short description, a build or press key, and your target platforms. We read every pitch, though with a five-person crew it can take up to two weeks to reply.

Is the newsletter really free?+

Yes. The Storm Digest goes out every Friday at 6pm AEST at no cost, funded by a handful of clearly marked partner spotlights. Your email is never sold, and one click unsubscribes you for good.

Which platforms do you cover?+

PC is our home base, but we test on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch whenever a game ships there. Each review notes exactly which version we played and flags any performance differences we ran into.
